Not only do we want you to have the best life insurance policy, but we also want to give you all the information that you need to make the best decision for your CPA career.
Benefits of the AICPA
Before we start looking at the membership costs of AICPA and how much it’s going to cost you to join the program, we are going to look at some of the reasons that you should consider becoming a member of the AICPA.
When you go to the membership benefits page of the AICPA website, the first thing that you’ll see is that they are advocates for CPA across the nation. They want to be the voice for everyone in the accounting field. They say that they “work on your behalf to protect your professional interests in the legislative, regulatory and public policy arenas on issues that can affect you, your firm and, your career.” Not only do they provide advocacy for CPAs, but they also give resources for development and discounts.
As a member of the AIPCA, you’ll be able to get discounts from several different companies in a wide variety of industries. You’ll be able to get discounts on things like computers, cars, or other financial services. These discounts are an excellent additional benefit for becoming a member. Depending on how much traveling that you do, these discounts could easily offset the cost of the fees.
Another key benefit of joining the AICPA is the development resources and opportunities that they offer to their members. They have several development programs and tools that you can use, like academic development, peer review, work-life balance services, and much more. They know that being a CPA can be a demanding position, but they are there to make sure that you have the knowledge and equipment that you need.
As we’ve discussed in other posts, another benefit is the life insurance plans offered through the AIPCA. They have a group life insurance policy that you can join, but this plan is usually not the best option. Even though it’s part of a group plan, it’s usually not the cheapest option.
How Much Does it Cost to Join the AICPA?
If you’re thinking about joining the AICPE, it’s important to realize how much you’re going to be paying for the membership. There are several different membership types and fees that you’re going to encounter. There are a couple of different factors that are going to impact how much you pay for your membership.
For example, if you’re in education in some way, then you’re going to pay less for your membership fee than someone that is the president or COO of a business. If you work in education, then you will pay $265 for your membership every year. On the other hand, if you’re the COO/CEO/President you’re going to pay $455 every year. That’s a noticeable difference. You’ll pay that lower amount if you work in government, if you’re an internal auditor, or if you’re a staff worker for a public accounting or law firm.
There are a couple of other membership areas that are going to have different fees. One of those is if you’re retired. If you have finally reached retirement age, then you can get a retired membership. As long as you work less than 20 hours a week, and you’ve reached official retirement age determined by Social Security, then you can be a member for only $140 every year.
On a similar note, if you have taking a break from the workforce, then you can join using the “TLW” category (temporarily left the workforce), which allows you to cut those costs down to $140 every year. There are a few circumstances that you will have to meet to be eligible to enroll using this category. You must have left the workforce for a medical reason, a family reason, educational, or because of unemployment.
If you’re in the military, then you can contact the AICPA service center and discuss get a waiver of the fees. There are thousands of military men and women that have joined the AICPA and they want to thank those service members by waiving their fees.
They have a few other membership categories for students, international CPAs, and non-CPAs. If you want to join using their associate membership, you’re going to pay the $265, but associate members are not going to get all of the benefits of a full member.
They also offer firm membership programs that you can purchase which will give membership to all of the CPAs in your firm. The cost is going to change depending on how many people are in the firm.
